The European Union: On the Verge of Extinction?

At present the European Union is at a critical point where pressing challenges threaten to fracture its core structure since its inception. Recent global changes have revealed serious weaknesses in the fundamental unity of this major organizational project.

President Trump uses his “America First” approach to the Ukraine conflict to reveal European political restraint. Presently European leaders deal with defense limitations and they initiate policies such as Britain’s “coalition of the willing” accompanied by France’s “partial truce” vision. The military systems of these initiatives depend extensively on United States defense capabilities which highlights European weak spots in strategic defense (New York Post).

The U.S. military aid freeze to Ukraine forced the EU to reconsider its security dependence on foreign powers. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is working to ease fiscal restrictions because it will enable more defense investments which may free up 650 billion euros and create a 150 billion euro defense investment fund.
