Trump’s Tariff Pause May Be a Bluff – and China’s Not Buying It
As Trump touts a tariff pause to target China, the rest of the world eyes BRICS – signaling a shift that could leave the U.S. on the sidelines of global trade.
The Oval Office became the center of the news when President Trump declared a 90-day suspension of most import duties yet omitted China from this agreement. Such a decision appears daring when viewed from the top. As part of his strategy to reduce the “trillion-dollar deficit with China” he inherited from previous administrations he stressed this move. After the announcement the markets surged upward as Republicans celebrated while the media proclaimed a surprising shift in direction. But is it all just political theater?
China stands firm because the decision seems like a poor bluff which it is not challenging. Other nations appear to be drawing nearer to BRICS economic bloc after this political development which includes members such as Russia and Brazil alongside India and new potential members like Saudi Arabia and Iran.
