A Sad Tradition of Distance
Missing my grandparents and my grandkids
Missing my grandparents
Grandpa J* was a fisherman
Not by trade, but by hobby
He grew strawberries outside
Other plants inside
He loved his baseball
No one could talk when he watched
Grandpa S* worked hard
Drove the country supervising
The installation of power plants
He worked The Dam
Loved to drive fast
Until he retired
Then he slowed down fast
Grandma J, I barely knew
She was a nurse
She loved my mother
She didn’t go outside
I know we visited her
But I barely remember her
She died before
We moved to Wisconsin
Grandma S collected buttons
She gave great hugs
She cooked, she baked, she worked
She was the letter writer
I still treasure the letter
She sent me just before
Grandpa S retired
Just before they moved
