In the early days of summer
When the temperature began to rise
A pack of sunflower seeds was planted
A hopeful summer prize

They started in a small pot
So they could grow and sprout
But soon needed a bigger one
So they could move about

The sunflower’s dream is growth
To give life all its got
To grow so big, it must move
Out of its little pot

And so the sunflowers moved
Into their new home
Amongst the trees and bushes
Where bugs and animals roam

Dug their roots deep in the ground
So they wouldn’t move about
If heavy rainfall poured down
Or if they were in a drought

The sunflower’s dream is to stand tall
Not worry about the day
When time reaches the end of fall
And petals fall away

The sunflower will live out its dream
This I do not fear
For sunflowers tend to bloom and bloom
Each and every year

Response to the Day 30 prompt of Summer of Spilled Words II.
