Belly Up

A poem about repeating dreams

dead fish dream
this time a whale in a tank
a million times too small
or maybe just the eyes remain
plus puffer fish
life-like stuffed animals
from a science museum gift shop
curiously I try
not to examine
but I am too close to the glass
and why
what is that dead fish screaming at me
what am I not seeing in waking life
I have help this time
but it isn’t someone else
so squeamish to clean…
