Lockdown chickens

As we bemoan and survive our woeful year
my chickens also have much to fear.
Avian flu is on the spread
so contact with wild birds is disallowed.
They patrol the perimeter of their smallish cage,
safe from predators and this plague,
restless to be out and roaming wild
hunting the long grass with dinosaur guile.
Their frustration with us on our daily visits
does nothing to allay their free ranging desires
these chickens who live a life without…
