An employee at a Streetsboro McDonald’s threw a cup of hot water at Windham resident Britany Sorace at the restaurant’s drive through window on Friday, narrowly missing her face and inflicting first degree burns on her neck, Sorace said.

“I’m still in pain,” Sorace said. “It hurts. It feels as though I have a curling iron just sitting on my neck.”

The employee threw the water at Sorace after she complained to a manager about the employee who took her order being “extremely rude.” Sorace said the manager called her a “bitch” and told her the restaurant didn’t need her business.

She pulled up to the pickup window and said she’s “almost 100 percent positive” the employee at the window was that same one who took her order. The employee pulled Sorace’s food back into the window when she reached for it.

“So I then make the comment, ‘You can quit being bitchy, and give me my food. Like, this is bullshit,’” Sorace said. “She then takes the cup … and threw it on me, which it had the hot water in it.”

After being hit with the water, Sorace called the Streetsboro police and said she plans to press an assault charge against the employee on Monday. She spent about an hour speaking to various police officers at the McDonald’s and said the employee who threw the water at her was still working when she left.

A manager at the McDonald’s declined to comment and did not provide contact information for the supervisor or general manager when asked. The Streetsboro Police Department confirmed an incident took place but said it could not release its report Saturday afternoon because it was not finished.

“The manager needs to lose her job,” Sorace said. “The employee that threw the water on me needs to lose her job.”

The altercation began because Sorace ordered two double hamburgers without cheese. She said McDonald’s had messed up her order before, so she felt the need to specify. The employee gave her “attitude,” saying she could not remove cheese from an item that didn’t come with it in the first place, she said. When Sorace told the employee to “lose that attitude with me,” she responded rudely.
