Where Do Mothers Come From?

My mother insisted,
Her eyes smiling with delight,
“You chose me to be your mom
Before you were born,
so you have to listen to me.
It’s too late for you to change your mother now.”

Of course, I never wanted to trade her in for a different model.
Rather, I appreciated her suggestion wondering
What she meant by I came from somewhere
Where I could choose
The parents of my next birth.

Happy Mothers Day
To my dearest, wonderful mother
Wherever it was
You came from
I cherish always that
You chose me to be yours.

Hope we can do this again.
