In dance competitions, there isn’t a first, second, and third place, but there also is. It is actually quite complicated when it comes to judging and scoring. At a competition, there are different categories, in which sometimes there can be a top 8, top 10, or top 5. But then there is the overall scoring that tops all of the categories. Certain dances go into certain categories depending on that style of dance. There are also a certain amount of stars a dancer can get, kind of like a review. Five stars is the most you can get, and with whatever amount of stars you get, you will always get a pin saying how many your routine received. Dances also get plaques that are ranked from gold, high gold, platinum, double platinum, and a grand slam or whatever that certain competition calls it. The awards at a dance competition take place after all the dances have performed, all of the dancers go on stage in their company jackets and sit and wait to hear their dance to be called for whatever category they might be in. Along with all the scoring and rankings, competitions also sometimes give out checks and scholarships to other competitions or dance conventions. Besides how the awards and scoring works, the judges judge on many different things and look for many different abilities in dancing. Judges look at technique, showmanship, musicality, and choreography. All of these is what pans into all of the awards and scoring, each dance judge creates a voice over video while you are performing giving feedback and corrections that you can later correct. Dance overall is a very complicated sport, or art, and can be hard to understand unless you have attended a competition.
