What Students Think About P2

We received a incredible message earlier today from Annette Bund. The type of message that reinforces why we do what we do. Annette is the parent of two students at Morgan Road Elementary in Liverpool, NY and a teacher at an elementary school in nearby Baldwinsville. In preparation for meeting with her principal and some colleagues to discuss implementing The Positivity Project (P2), she thought it would be powerful for them to hear something straight from a child’s mouth.

So, she asked her boys (one about to enter 3rd grade and the other about to enter 1st grade) what they thought about P2. Annette tells us, “I wrote down exactly what they said, word for word and then I typed them up. As I sat reading their words, I was blown away. Such great things coming out of their mouths!”

See below for what they said:

Colin, 8 years old

With the Positivity Project, we discuss important things. The whole school
gets together and we learn how to be nice and we learn about ourselves. It
makes my brain bigger and helps me to do new things. It’s a very good thing
because we get to learn about our character strengths.

My top character strengths are creativity and zest. Creativity is when you use your imagination. Zest is when you are very excited about life. My bottom character strength is self-control…I have to work on staying calm and not panicking/running around like a crazy person.

The Positivity Project helps me make friends and teaches us how to get along. My teacher’s strengths are love and love-of-learning. My principal’s strengths are fairness and self-control.

Joey, 6 years old

The Positivity Project helps us to be kinder. We appreciate each other’s
character strengths. We are proud of others and what they can do. It helps
me by learning all of the character strengths and I am kinder and fairer now.
Even when people are different from others, they can still be friends.

My top character strengths are humor and self-control. Humor is being funny. Self-control is not being funny and doing what you’re supposed to do. I need to work on humility (I brag a lot).

My teacher’s strengths are fairness and love-of-learning. My principal’s strengths are kindness and fairness.
