Three Steps To Make “It” Happen.
This is not about faith or pretending or quick fixes.
Mind over matter in life and business. See it when you believe it.

It’s about Success.
It’s about going for it.
It’s about becoming.
…..THINK — ACT — INVOLVE…..
What if you could make “it” happen? You know the “it”…the goal or accomplishment or title or achievement you’ve wished for.

“ But Harry, never forget that what the prophecy says is only significant because Voldemort made it so... Voldemort singled you out as the person who would be most dangerous to him –and in doing so, he made you the person who would be most dangerous to him.” -from Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, J. K. Rowling
We call it a self-fulfilling prophecy — A prediction that directly or indirectly causes itself to become true. Why does that happen? Because we are our thoughts. Our thoughts drive our actions. Our thoughts and actions attract our outcomes.
Unfortunately we too often get in our own way. There is something you want and your very thoughts prevent it from coming to be. But you can learn to use your brain, your unique mind, to achieve your goals emotionally, physically and professionally.
Call it the Law of Attraction or Cognitive Re-framing. It’s real. Here’s how it works.
Step 1 — Think: Know what you want.
This may seem an unnecessary step. You already know what you want, right? Maybe not. I have a photographer friend who asks clients “why do you want this picture?” and when they answer something like “it’s a head-shot for a new employee, so we need it for the website” he replies “I know, but why? What do you want this picture to accomplish? What do you want the head-shot to relay to the surfer who is checking your site out?” The real answer is “we want potential clients to feel immediately confident in the employee”. There. Now I know how to take the picture.
So what is your goal? Why? “I want to be happy” may really be “I want to find a hobby that satisfies my creative nature”. “I want to make more money” may really be “I want to have money for more traveling”. “I want to get published” may really be “I want people to read my writing and find value in it”.
Write down your goal or goals. For each, break it down. Get to the root of what you want. Get specific. Here’s why — When you bring things to the “front of your mind” and they appear in front of your eyes. When you learn someone you know has bought a car, nothing changes for you. But when you learn someone you know bought a red 4-door pick-up truck, you suddenly start noticing red 4-door pick-up trucks everywhere. The truth is there are no more than before, you are just noticing them now. So get specific about your goals and bring them to the front of your mind by writing them down.
Step 2 — ACT As If
Much of my expertise in business, life and balance came from the family business. Here’s one of the gems from my mom and dad: Say it with conviction and everyone will believe you. No, they were not talking about fraud or false claims. When they first started the business, advertising was either print or TV. The very first advertising investment they made was to buy the back cover of the industry’s most popular magazine. Being the back cover meant it had to be full-page and full-color. If you can imagine, the most expensive ad space to buy. Oh, and you had to commit to 6 volumes, so the back cover for 6 months. Cha-Ching! But people saw the ad and immediately knew this company was a winner who could handle their business.
A friend of mine owns a very successful outdoor pool and spa business. They design and install for high-end residences. When he first started selling pools years ago, his first boss told him to go buy a new truck. “If you pull up in a new, shiny truck, people will assume you know your stuff”. It worked. He was a good sales-man, knew his stuff, but pulling up “as if” he already owned the business caused immediate confidence.
So, act as if.
You have written a children’s book and hope to someday be a published author? Get business cards printed that say “[Your Name], Children’s Book Author”. You want to make drawings that are good enough for your medium posts? Go get some really nice paper & a set of fabulous charcoal pencils, then set up your artist’s area in your work-space.
Whatever it is, dress the part, act the part, research the part. Think of it like method acting. By acting as-if, you are identifying with that end result. Remember, we are our thoughts. Our thoughts drive our actions. Our thoughts and actions attract our outcomes.
Step 3 — INVOLVE the universe.
Success is not a solo act.

“The only mistake you can make is not asking for help.” -Sandeep Jauhar
Think about the accomplishments, joys and victories you have experienced so far. Did you achieve those markers all by yourself?
When you know what your goals are (Think), and you are actively engaged in moving toward them (Act as if), all sorts of universal energy will be there to help. But you have to take them up on the offer (Involve).
When I knew that I wanted to write a book about Jewish synagogue education, I started talking about it. It didn’t matter whom I spoke to, I just put it out there and connections came from the most unexpected places. When I wanted to expand my professional resume, I called an old mentor and asked her if she’d come to lunch and brainstorm with me. When I decided exactly how I wanted my life to feel, I called an professional acquaintance who radiates that feeling and just told him I wanted to be in touch and that his energy was fantastic. Each of those efforts, — involvements — led to accomplishments, joys and victories.
And to ice this very fine cake of positive motion, the involvement acts like a ripple in the water. Once I started the flow of involvement it continued even when I wasn’t directly perpetuating it. A call comes from someone I’ve never heard of who got my number from so-and-so who happened to mention to another friend…you know it happens! Then I stumble on a fantastic book about Jewish education written by a famous Rabbi in the sale bin at my local used book store. I take the call. I buy the book. The universe continues it’s involvement.

Not too long ago, this sort of advice really pissed me off.
Easy for someone else to taut…not so easy to do.
I was trapped.
So I had to first realize I was trapped. (maybe the hardest part).
Then I had to tell someone else I was trapped.
But the day I told someone else, the walls of the labyrinthine I was navigating started to vanish. It is sometimes slow and sometimes I have lost some footing. I’m still working toward my goals. But I can say this with 100% honesty — taking the steps above is moving me toward my goals. I am already enjoying much greater happiness and balance in my life.
Keep these steps in mind and pay attention.
- Think. We are out thoughts, so know what your goals are.
- Act. Our thoughts drive our actions, so Act As If.
- Involve. Our thoughts and actions attract our outcomes, so reach out and grab hold of what you are attracting.
