Clearing clutter out of your home creates a more peaceful and supportive environment. But, sometimes it’s hard to get started or create positive momentum toward your clutter free goals.

Decluttering can feel like an overwhelming project. That is, unless you can kick start the process. One way to do this is to start with some of the things listed below.

  1. Any duplicate items — you usually don’t need 2,3 or more of an item
  2. Plugs, cords, or chargers you no longer need
  3. Pens that don’t write
  4. Books — only keep your favorites, most everything is available at your library or online
  5. Old greeting cards, especially if they just have a signature and no message
  6. Toys and clothes your kids have outgrown
  7. Craft supplies you know you will not use
  8. Piles and files of papers — if they are important, you can scan them
  9. Bridesmaid dresses — I know you spent a lot, but you can sell or donate them
  10. Take out menus — they are available online
  11. Freebies and samples (like hotel lotions) you have gathered , but won’t really use
  12. Old sunscreen makeup or skin care products — they could be unhealthy
  13. Food that has been in the freezer too long or passed it’s expiration date
  14. Tupperware or other containers without lids
  15. CDs — upload them to your computer and then sell the CDs
  16. Expired medications — probably ineffective and possibly dangerous
  17. Linens or other items from an old color scheme
  18. Eyeglasses with an old prescription — donate them to help others see
  19. Anything that is worn out or threadbare
  20. Clothes that don’t fit — if you lose weight, you deserve new clothes
  21. Email spam, sent, and trash folders can be fun to empty
  22. Cheat items (like snack foods) that are not in alignment with your goals
  23. Things you inherited but don’t want — there is no obligation to keep them all
  24. Magazines — donate them to a library or local doctor’s office
  25. Things you haven’t used in a year

Don’t let your things stuffocate you! Your home will feel like a sanctuary when you let go of what you no longer love or use and surround yourself with what you do.
