4 Benefits of Recording Everything You Think

Every day I open up a Google Document and write down what I did in the last 24 hours. Every single day.

I also write down any stray thoughts/ideas that could help me accomplish my three core goals.

Ever since I started doing this three months ago, I’ve seen a couple benefits.

No Thought Gets Lost

Many times when thinking about something most of my more important thoughts get lost in the acceleration.

It’s like trying to catch all the snow in an avalanche with your bare hands.

When I commit to sitting in front a computer to record my thoughts, that doesn’t occur.

It’s like a stream of consciousness.

All of the caveats, processes, and structures of an idea get pinned down onto a digital piece of paper. It’s real now. I can see my ideas along with EXACTLY what I did today, where I’ve been, and where I’m going.

You Start Becoming Lazer Focused

Like I said, I have three goals I’m working towards over the next six months. When I record everything I do, my activities HAVE to justify what I’m working towards.

I write content every day because it’s getting me closer to my goals. I stopped blogging at my actual Wordpress blog because that wasn’t getting me closer to my goals.

Can you remember what you did on Tuesday a week ago?

I can — and that’s not to say I think I’m some awesome person. I’m just saying these are the benefits! That’s why I’m sharing them with you.

I’ve been working towards the same things for months now, and I’m finally starting to see a legitimate return because I force myself to check all my activities against the goals that I have.

You Don’t Do Anything That’s Pointless (For Long)

Is this helping me, or worthless?

I always ask myself that.

Now I can quantify whether something is actually worthless because I record everything. If my email subscriber numbers aren’t going up, I know certain strategies of mine aren’t working.

If for some reason I start seeing a jump one week, I know I’m doing something right.

You need to be like a business tracking their revenue and expenses.

You Feel 1,000% More Aware Of Yourself

I feel so much more aware of who I am, where I’m going, and where I’m at right now because I spend 30 minutes per day recording my thoughts and activities.

I can’t remember a time when I was firing on all cylinders like this.

Everything in my life has a purpose now. When I’m tracking my time, thoughts, and goals I’m forcing myself to complete activities on an actual timeline.

In the end that can be pretty damn powerful, which is why you need to start doing the same thing.
