School is a playground for overachievers. With a set of manageable goals, clear criteria, and a time frame, it’s ready, set, go for there! The overachiever will flourish in flying colors, going above and beyond the requirements. They will master the skills needed and provide the outcomes outlined. In the end, they will feel momentarily accomplished, and with little rest, will be ready for their next assignment.

Show of hands for those who can relate? I know I can.

Still, for the overachiever, it’s about more than just succeeding. It’s about exceeding expectations and standards. It’s about being your own biggest competitor and comparing yourself to past accomplishments. It’s all push and no pull.

Even grades are not enough, because overachievers are — and have to be — well-rounded. They should be doing it all; joining all the clubs and committees, finding time for sport, creative expression, and even, volunteer work.
