Ditch The Stock Market and Bitcoin: Invest In YOU For 1000% Returns
The best investment in the world isn’t what you think it is.
It’s not the stock market.
It’s sure as hell not bitcoin.
It’s not buying a house.
Seriously, there is no greater investment than the money you spend investing in yourself.
The stock market can collapse.
Bitcoin has and will continue to fluctuate in value.
Another housing market collapse could happen.
But investing in yourself ALWAYS pays off.
Even if you go broke, no one can take away the knowledge that you’ve put into your mind.
As billionaire investor Warren Buffet said, “The best investment you can make is investing in yourself.”
You will always have the investment that you make in yourself.
Despite being one of the most successful investors of all time Warren Buffett’s best investment wasn’t actually in the stock market.
Instead, he said the best investment he ever made was a public speaking course offered by the legendary speaker, Dale Carnegie, after he graduated college.
Warren was terrified of public speaking and couldn’t sell anything. But he knew he needed to learn the skill to make it on Wall St.
The results paid off…big time as he’s been in the top 5 richest people alive for decades.
As Jordan Belfort said in this Goalcast video, “You wanna know what Warren Buffet would be if he didn’t know how to speak and close deals? The biggest money manager in Omaha, Nebraska that nobody has ever heard of.”
If he hadn’t invested in himself he wouldn’t be able to impact the world like he has today.
What are you sacrificing by NOT investing in yourself?
Here are five ways to start investing in yourself:
1. Make Reading a Daily Habit
“Leaders are readers.” — Tony Robbins
Seriously, just read books…Netflix will forgive you.
The average American watches 1,848 hours of TV each year, equivalent to 77 full days. I don’t blame the average person either, shows and movies have never been better!
But if people reduced their mindless TV watching with reading a book only 25% of the time they’d log 462 hours of reading each year.
The average person reads one book per year with an annual salary of $44,654 for a 40-hour work schedule. Meanwhile, CEO’s average of 60 books per year and earn 13.8 million annually.
Warren Buffett reads five hours per day, Bill Gate a book per week.
This isn’t mind-blowing stuff but it will move the needle and help you make a positive change in your life.
Start by setting a goal of reading one book per month.
Try to replace 20% of your TV viewing habits by reading something that interests you. To get started here are some of my favorite money, self-improvement, and entrepreneurial books I’d recommend.
2. Listen to Podcasts Frequently
“You will never go broke from investing in yourself.” — Unknown
According to another recent study, the Average American commutes 25 minutes each way to work. If you commute a half hour each every weekday that is 13,000 minutes each year.
What are you doing during that time?
Are you sitting your phone going through social media, getting mad at traffic or playing a pointless app?
Use the time to invest in yourself by not wasting the time like everyone else. Use audiobooks or podcasts to learn while you are commuting.
Here are a few recommendations of podcasts that can help you make positive change in your life:
3. Attend Live Seminars
“Formal education will make you a living. Self-education will make you a fortune.” — Jim Rohn
Of all the ways to invest in yourself attending live seminars will give you some of the best and longest results.
Reading books and listening to podcasts are great but they aren’t a fully immersive experience.
Think about it this way — would you learn French faster if you took three semesters over a year and a half in college or lived in France for 3 months?
Once you immerse yourself in something fully you learn it faster than any other method.
When you are at a live seminar you will meet like-minded people, listen to something you are passionate about and take notes. All this combined with the energy of the room will put you in a peak state to retain what you are learning.
Check your local city or venues to find more info and find something that fits your passion and attend one or two a year. These experiences will stay with you a long time!
4. Take Online Courses or Invest in a Coach
“Coaching is unlocking a persons potential to maximize their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them.” — Timothy Gallwey
Unlike college, now you can take courses that actually matter on topics you care about. We live in a world of unlimited resources with online courses on any passion.
As I’ve become a full-time blogger and freelance writer I’ve spent thousands of dollars buying online courses.
Learning from others helps speed up the process.
As Tony Robbins said, “Success always leaves clues.”
There is no need to recreate the wheel for success. If someone is doing what you want to do already learn from them.
Here are some great sites to start learning a new skill and help you follow your passions. Some of these are free and others have paid courses:
Online Course Platforms
If you want hands-on help find someone you respect and see if they have coaching services.
Many people have coaches in sports, business, and fitness that can help speed up success!
5. Watch Motivational Videos
“Be a lifelong student. The more you learn, the more you earn and the more self confidence you will have.” — Brian Tracy
Instead of watching another cat video, use Youtube as a free way to invest in your own development. I have learned so much from watching TedX speeches, keynotes, and educational shows on Youtube.
As soon as you wake up play one of these motivational videos or something similar to jump-start your day.
Invest In Yourself to Change Your Life
There is no greater investment than when you choose to invest in yourself.
The stock market and real estate will provide good returns but if you want to achieve more and have unlimited returns start investing in yourself.
When you invest in yourself you will change your psychology by showing your mind you are committed to creating lasting change.
As 2008 showed us, the stock market can collapse overnight but no one can take away your knowledge and experience.
Start investing in yourself today so you can experience the returns for the rest of your life.
Invest time in YOU!
Each time you spend money on a new book, course, or seminar you get one step closer to achieving every goal and dream.
You are only one idea away and one decision away from changing your life forever.
