Ever Imagine Your Life With Someone You Barely Know?

Have you done this?

I might just be crazy, but I do this ALL the time — especially at 23. I think we’ve all done it at some point in our lives, just maybe not with someone we barely know.

Look, writing is for being open and honest. I must write what I feel — regardless of how stupid it makes me look.

Confession: I imagine my life with people I’ve just met all the time.

When you’re single, and you’re 24, you’re not looking to waste your time on a relationship. You’re looking long-term, well, at least I do!

If I meet someone I like, and we start texting back and forth, and I’m really digging the conversation for a few days straight, my mind decides to take that fantasy of a life with them and run with it.

I’m a huge believer that a wide range of girls can be the one, it just depends on the timing. That’s why I’m not questioning the insanity of my brain too much.

My brain’s just being realistic. I’m almost 24, I’m painfully single, and I don’t have much time to dilly-dally. It just starts targeting key information, like their temperament, their family, and how willing they are to relocate.

Then my brain takes that key information, extrapolates it to my own situation, and develops an in-depth 294 slide imaginative powerpoint presentation going over the 7,532 reasons this person is or isn’t good for me.

All in a matter of seconds.

This presentation houses key facts such as where we’re going to live, what our kids are going to look like, and whether she’ll mesh well with my family.

And vice-versa.

Then I snap back to reality after a good 30 seconds of daydreaming at dinner.

This happens to me so much it’s unreal. I figured I’d put it out there in case anyone else feels this way.

I guess in the end we’re simply dreamers, you know? We’re daring romantics who desperately want to believe we’ve found the one.

So we come up with grand visions of a future life with someone just to keep that hope alive for a few minutes.

It’s quite sad, actually.

Don’t blame me, I’ve been binging that Lemony Snicket series on Netflix for the past few days.

The good news is no fantasy could ever be as good as actually making a life with someone. There’s so much information our brain skips, or couldn’t possibly know, for it to create an accurate representation of a possible life.

That’s why we fall in love in the first place — to fearlessly go on the most daring journey of our lives with someone we really really really like by our side — without knowing what’s coming.

No fantasy could beat that. Keep dreaming, my friends.
