What do you think is the keyword here?

Success?

I would say it’s ‘choose’.

Think back.

When you were fresh out of high school and had to select your college did you pick or did you choose?

Most likely you picked.

And you picked the best.

You picked the one with the bigger name.

You jumped at the Ivy League school as soon as you got the acceptance letter.

You had a lot of options and you picked. In this case, you are more of a maximizer trying to pick the best out of the lot.

But were you satisfied?

That’s a question we don’t seem to ever ask.

How satisfying is this venture going to be?

Did I choose my institution?

Did I really choose my job? Or did I merely pick the best?

I’ve come to believe if you choose, you win.

Maybe not in the short-term, but the long term benefits of choice are high.

And this has to be your choice.

The salary might be low, but the hours satisfying.

The work does justice to your strengths and you look forward to your commute every day. Won’t that be gratifying?

In the words of Hal Elrod,

The moment you accept total responsibility for EVERYTHING in your life is the day you claim the power the change ANYTHING in your life

We all think picking has an advantage.

You don’t want to miss out on the best. We want the highest pay package. But we rarely think about whether this will satisfy us.

We rarely think about whether this job holistically makes us a better person. Improves us not only monetarily but intrinsically. We don’t stop to think whether this job is aligned with our context or the way we see ourselves.

We don’t choose our jobs.

In turn, it’s natural to press snooze on a Monday morning.

You need to create a situation for yourself where your context is aligned with your personality.

What happens then is simple.

You love your work.

You love your relationships.

You love your life.

All because of the power of choice.

You are going to be more satisfied and thus much happier. Aren’t we all looking for that at the end of it all?

Happy Reading!

In any instance in life did you pick instead of choose, I would love to hear your story and the consequences of your actions if you’re willing to share.
