The Question Every Recruiter Asks

If you’re a student or a recent graduate, you’ve probably started to get yourself some interviews.

It can be an exciting time, and you should enjoy it as much as possible, but preparation is vital as you move into the interview phase of your career search.

According to Entrepreneur.com, one aspect of the interview phase that makes a lot of young professionals uncomfortable is salary discussion. While this article is not entirely about salary negotiation, it is focused on the first mention of salary and a way to respond that sets you up for success in the future.

Most, if not all, recruiters will first bring up salary at the end of your phone screen by asking this question:

“What is your desired salary range?”
