You Should Think Twice Before Quitting Your Job Without Notice
Following what other people do can bring more harm than good
There was an interesting conversation on LinkedIn recently. A high-profile person posted that if you work for a dehumanizing, uncaring company, you don’t need to give two weeks’ notice to quit. “Burn those bridges,” she said.
A lot of people agreed. But a few shared different stories: “Boils down to where you work, what kind of worker you are, and what kind of manager you have. […] I wanted to reinforce the bridge, not burn it,” someone commented.
Following this conversation reminded me of the story of my best friends Andy and Tim. They worked for the same company, excelled at their skills, and decided to quit jobs simultaneously. But the way they handled this situation was totally different, which led to unexpected outcomes.
Note: I changed the company name as Andy and Tim don’t want to disclose it.
Two men, same situation, and different attitudes
Andy and Tim were great salespeople at a software company (Techlax). They worked hard and most of the time exceeded sales targets. I believe they can sell anything because of their smiling faces and outgoing characteristics.
