A Trick Of The Light

Poem about a woman flown away

Some nights I see her,
others she slips past me

through the cracks,
out of my reach.

She runs to me
in my sleep, and I wake up

to find her flown away.
I blink once, twice: almost there!

And then — her shape is gone;
the woman that was so real to me,

just a trick of the light.
Sometimes I wonder

if she was ever in the world at all.
