Poem: May 24, 2022

I can sense the sadness from miles away

the faces of families,

the empty basketball court,

the teddy bears alone in bed tonight.

I can feel the country holding its breath

unison

as we no longer know

what to hope.

I can guess the images

that will pop up on TVs tonight,

the grids with their faces.
