NFL Madden 23 is soon to be released and the long-awaited ratings release happened recently. Every year it seems that the community finds something to disagree with, and this year most were perplexed by the initial wide receiver rankings for Madden 23. I am one of those people who disagree with the majority of their list and ratings.

Without further ado, I will be revamping what I think the NFL Madden 23 ratings should be.

1. Davante Adams, Las Vegas Raiders

Madden Rating: 99 Overall | My Rating: 99 Overall

Davante Adams is the best wide receiver in the league in my eyes. His combination of route running, hands, and contested catching puts him at the top rating of 99. Also, being paired with Aaron Rodgers last year he was able to lead his team to the No.1 seed in the NFC.

This off-season he was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders and will be teaming up with his former teammate, Derek Carr. Although I expect his stats to come down in this upcoming season, he will still be able to showcase his insane talent and prove why he deserves the top spot on this list.

2. Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles Rams

Madden Rating: 98 Overall | My Rating: 99 Overall

Cooper Kupp, along with Davante Adams deserves the top spot on this list. His stat line for last season is all you need to see to be convinced that he deserves a 99 overall. His 1,947 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 145 receptions is the best season we’ve ever seen, statistically, from a wide receiver.

In this past season, he also joined the short list of few wide receivers to get the triple crown and even won a Super Bowl ring. Furthermore, Kupp was able to win Super Bowl MVP, solidifying his case for the best receiver season of all time. If Kupp didn’t deserve a 99 overall in Madden’s eyes then I am not sure if anybody else does.

3. Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings

Madden Rating: 93 Overall | My Rating: 97 Overall

Justin Jefferson continued his dominance in his sophomore season in the NFL. After putting up 1,400 yards in his rookie season, he was somehow still able to improve substantially and have 1,616 yards, 108 receptions, and 10 touchdowns.

Jefferson has arguably had the best two-year start for a wide receiver ever which is why he deserves the number three spot on this list. In most cases, you would see Jefferson at the top of this list, but today’s game boast an insane amount of wide receiver talent which is why I have him at third with a 97 overall rating.

4. Tyreek Hill, Miami Dolphins

Madden Rating: 97 Overall | My Rating: 96 Overall

Tyreek Hill is another one of the superstar wide receivers who was traded in this recent off-season. After dominating with the assistance of Patrick Mahomes, he is now a Miami Dolphin and will have Tua Tagovailoa throwing to him.

Being the fastest player in the NFL, Tyreek Hill rightfully deserves the fourth spot on this list at a 96 overall. His nickname, “The Cheetah,” is all you need to hear to understand the speed of Tyreek and why he is one of the best players in all of football.

5. Stefon Diggs, Buffalo Bills

Madden Rating: 95 Overall | My Rating: 95 Overall

Stefon Diggs had a down year for his standards this past year with 1,225 yards, 103 receptions, and 10 touchdowns. Despite this, a down year for a player like Diggs is a career year for others. His skills include his route running, which might be the best in the NFL, and his hands. Watching his highlight reel shows just how good he is at these things.

Additionally, the Bills were one of the best teams in the league and 13 seconds away from making the AFC Championship game. Next year, I expect Stefon to bounce back in a big fashion and the Bills to remain as top-tier Super Bowl contenders.

6. Ja’Maar Chase, Cincinnati Bengals

Madden Rating: 87 Overall | My Rating: 94 Overall

I know what some of you may be thinking. “Ja’Maar Chase is only a rookie, he shouldn’t be ranked this high.” To counter against that, Chase just had the best rookie season we have ever seen from a wide receiver. Putting a stat line of 1,455 yards, 81 receptions, and 13 touchdowns is unprecedented.

Moreover, Chase was the leading reason that his team was able to make the Super Bowl in the first place. Even on the last play of the game, he was able to beat the best cornerback, Jalen Ramsey.

Unfortunately, Joe Burrow was sacked and didn’t have time to throw what would’ve been the game-winning touchdown. Despite this, the Bengals will be in prime condition next year with a better offensive line and Ja’Maar Chase will feast.

7. Deebo Samuel, San Francisco 49ers

Madden Rating: 89 Overall | My Rating: 92 Overall

Deebo Samuel was a one-of-one player last season. He was the only person to have six receiving touchdowns and eight rushing touchdowns in a single season. Along with this, he had 1,405 receiving yards and 1,770 yards from the scrimmage.

Additionally, he had the second most yards for a wide receiver, regular season, and playoffs (only behind Cooper Kupp). Putting him at an 89 overall is disrespectful considering how much he accomplished last season.

8. DeAndre Hopkins, Arizona Cardinals

Madden Rating: 96 Overall | My Rating: 92 Overall

After having a disappointing season, DeAndre Hopkins is still considered a 96 overall in Madden’s eyes. In my opinion, this is too high based on just his previous season. In 10 games he was only able to put a measly 572 yards.

If he didn’t have the reputation of his career, he likely wouldn’t even be a 90 overall. However, his skill alone makes me put him at eight in the rankings with a 92 overall rating.

9. Mike Evans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Madden Rating: 92 Overall | My Rating: 90 Overall

Mike Evans has been a great wide receiver ever since he entered the league. He has had 8 straight seasons with 1,000+ yards. Just two years ago his team was able to win the Super Bowl, with him as the primary receiver.

He is the definition of a wide receiver one and deserves to be on everybody’s top 10 list. In this upcoming season, I expect Evans to continue this success with the injury of Chris Godwin.

10. DK Metcalf, Seattle Seahawks

Madden Rating: 89 Overall | My Rating: 89 Overall

DK Metcalf had a disappointing season last year and the injury of Russell Wilson didn’t help that. In the 2021 season, he wasn’t able to even hit 1,000 yards, which is the standard for top receivers.

However, Metcalf has the best tangibles in the entire NFL. He is six foot four, 235 pounds, and is strong beyond belief. Despite Russell Wilson being traded, Metcalf is bound to have a better season than last year. An 89 overall is an understatement considering the talent that this player has.

These are my updated top 10 Madden 23 rankings and the adjusted ratings. Let me know in the comments your thoughts and what you would change.
