I have a confession to make.

I was not at all a fan of the Josh Donaldson trade this off-season.

Not because it wasn’t a good swap, getting a high-level, veteran third baseman in Donaldson plus a (then assumed only) serviceable shortstop in Isiah Kiner-Falefa, in exchange for Gary Sanchez and Gio Urshela. They got things they needed in exchange for that which they no longer did.

It also meant they were going in the correct shortstop direction in stop-gapping until Anthony Volpe is fully ready, and wouldn’t make the mistake of signing either Carlos Correa or Trevor Story to contracts their performance will not justify.

Four big positives and I still wasn’t a fan.

Donaldson is a notorious shit starter, which is what it is, but one of his most noteworthy in recent past had been with one of our own…

Why run the risk of pissing off your $36 million dollar a year, one of the best pitchers in baseball and star player in Gerrit Cole, by bringing in someone he has a highly recognized beef with? It seemed insulting to Cole.
