Sometimes things don’t go to plan, and sometimes new ambitions arise and you’ll grow old of the monotony, itching for a new adventure. So true in life, as in football too. This is especially true when you’re respected, reputable, and more often than not, looking for a new challenge across the world.

This summer transfer window, stretching from the beginning of July to the end of August is the perfect window of opportunity to make that switch. While you, the individual may desire a move away from a club, sometimes the process of arranging and putting yourself up for another club to come and get you, might be a little more difficult than you imagined.

Because, after all, there isn’t exactly one party involved in these types of deals. The existence of the club’s board, a long-term vision, agents, and sporting directors are just some of the obstacles that stand in your way.

Even so, after considering all the barriers to your exit, if in any case you check the boxes mentioned above and you frankly, just really want to get out of there, here are three ways that are currently trending as methods of doing so…

1. Simply just don’t show up

Feign an excuse, such as “family/personal issues” while at the same time making your intentions loud and clear to any potential suitors for your signature. Effective? Yes. Will the fanbase be divided because your name is Cristiano Ronaldo and your reputation as one of the best in the world precedes you? Also yes.

As an avid Manchester United fan myself, this is the exact predicament that the club is facing — to either turn over a new leaf, or hang onto the past. How new manager Erik Ten Hag may navigate this? Who knows, but what we do know is that Ronaldo is actively pushing for a deal out of a club that he sees as having “no ambition to compete at the top level.” with his agent Jorge Mendes offering the 37-year-old to top European clubs such as Chelsea, Napoli, and Bayern Munich.

Breaking today, it has been reported that Ronaldo will not join the rest of the team in their pre-season tour when they fly out soon. The definition of simply not showing up is a gamble, and probably already has him in the bad graces of Ten Hag, but due to the perceived direness of the situation at hand — clearly, one that, despite the damage to his reputation, CR7 is willing to take.

Whether it will pay off remains to be seen by the end of the deadline day on August 31st.

2. Align yourself with your team of choice

The chosen method of Robert Lewandowski who looks to leave Bayern Munich after 8 seasons of calling the Bundesliga champions home. The Pole has gone on record saying that he will refuse to play for Bayern and instead “only wants Barcelona” as his next destination since the beginning of June.

A free agent by the end of this upcoming season, and aged 33, talks have now progressed with Bayern have accepted this choice with player and club awaiting Barcelona to get the deal done and dusted.

However, herein lies a problem. With the current state of FC Barcelona, in a state of crippling debt, the club is already struggling to register players for the upcoming season, only committing thus far to the free signings of Frank Kessie and Andreas Christensen from AC Milan and Chelsea, respectively.

With a set price tag of around €50 million for the Bavarian striker’s services, the Spanish giants are struggling to find the funds to accelerate the move past the talking stage.

With this ongoing tug-of-war, the football world eagerly awaits the decision of the Bayern Munich board on whether to accept the new offer from President Joan Laporta, who revealed a close to €40 million guaranteed fee along with an additional €5 million in potential add-ons.

3. Denounce your current club

The absolutely, positively most effective way to get an entire fanbase to hate you comes in the form of this method. Forcing a move-out? No, employ this method and you’re bulldozing your way out of it and Romelu Lukaku just did.

Why not go and give a tell-all interview where you plead to go back to a club which you turned down in the first place while absolutely undermining your current club’s system, manager, and day-to-day operations.

This is exactly what Lukaku did when he wanted out of Chelsea after one abysmal season with the Blues, pleading on Italian TV in an interview with Sky Italia, to Inter Milan to take him back after he left them on less than amicable terms. Someone who couldn’t live with the consequences of his actions, the Belgian forward straight up denounced his current club at the time, prompting both Chelsea and Inter fans to protest against his actions and words.

To publicly and unapologetically denounce his club, criticising not only the manager, but the staff and his teammates as well is unforgivable. To do it, and have little to no shame is unbelievable and to do it, and have it work in his favour, is absolutely shocking. But, what does Romelu Lukaku care?

After all, he’s traded one set of angry fans for another, as he was granted his wish of once again returning to Inter Milan earlier this transfer window.

Which one will you choose?

So there you have it! 3 ways to force your way out of a football club for whatever reason in the next transfer window coming up.

Which one will you choose? Will you flake on your training? Spread the love? or become the next villain in the world of football?
