Cho Gue Sung Scores 99th Minute Header, Celebrates Goal

South Korea digs deeper to make it through to the Asian Cup quarter-final after defeating Saudi Arabis on penalties following a 1–1 draw match time.

Goal Scorer Abdullah Radif’s almost secured victory for Saudi Arabia, but Cho Gue-sung’s 99th-minute header levelled the match, deeping the game to extra time.

After 30 minutes of extra-time, the scoreline remained the same which brought the game to penalties.

Sami Al Najei and Abdulrahman Ghareeb saw their penalties saved, while South Korea comfortably converted their first three in the shoot-out, paving the way for Hwang Hee-chan to secure a 4–2 shootout win and advance to the quarter-finals.

Roberto Mancini, coach of Saudi Arabia, walked out midway through the shootout. His side, who topped Group F ahead of Thailand, Oman and Kyrgyzstan, have now exited the competition.

South Korea, managed by Jurgen Klinsmann, will face Australia in the quarter-finals.
