Grateful Dead Coming to Soldier Field

Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Phil Lesh of the legendary Grateful Dead are set to perform together one last time this summer. Chicago’s very own Soldier Field will be home to the show, titled “Fare Thee Well” on July 3rd, 4th and 5th, 2015.

Some folks may be wondering why this event is taking place at Soldier Field. It was there on July 9th, 1995 that Jerry Garcia performed live for the last time, as he would sadly pass away one month later on August 9th, 1995. It was also the last time the band would play together as The Grateful Dead. Twenty years later, to celebrate their 50th anniversary, the four surviving members will play Soldier Field again.

This is sure to be an amazing experience for those who are fortunate enough to attend. I say that as if it’s going to be difficult to get tickets because it will in fact be difficult to get tickets. On January 20th, 2015, tickets became available through mail order. The process of mail ordering tickets to see The Grateful Dead is nothing short of unique and colorful. Fans take plain white envelopes and decorate them to their hearts’ content. What can be found inside the envelopes are money and a return envelope. What is the return envelope for? Tickets, of course. Fans send in their best artwork, along with their money, in hopes they will be sent tickets in return.

Mail orders garnered 10 requests for every 1 ticket available, which is sure to put the pressure on those who are hoping to find good news in their mailbox. Tickets go on sale to the general public on February 28th, 2015.
