Innovator Of Comedy A Pro Wrestler From Chicago?

As a kid, were you ever told the story of the little engine that could? I think I can, I think I can. Then what do you know Thomas the “Choo Choo Train”, pulled through against all the odds that were stacked in front of him. The same can be said about local Chicago Pro Wrestler Colt Cabana A.k.a. Scott Colton. He started wrestling all over the Chicago scene in 1999 and made a instant name for himself with his Second City Saint partner CM Punk. Before you knew it they were wrestling all over the world making Chicago proud. This would lead to a brief WWE run under the name Scotty Goldman which is really the most Jewish name you can give a Jewish wrestler, but he rolled with the punches and made the best out of the situation. He would not let that run in WWE, however, defy his career. This was best said in his Rolling Stones article http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/features/colt-cabana-gets-the-last-laugh-how-wrestlings-comedian-built-an-empire-20150218 When Colt said quote: “I won’t let the wrestling industry tell me I’m a failure.”

From here on out, Colt would start his Art Of Professional Wrestling Podcast and become a true pioneer in the podcast world. Colt’s model has inspired some of his guests (such as Stone Cold Steve Austin and Chris Jericho to name a few) to go on and make their own podcasts. With this podcast, Colt was able to get people all across the world to hear not just his story but the stories of other wrestlers around the globe. This really changed the game for not just comedy in podcasts, but paved the way for wrestling podcasts. The podcast establishes talent as they can make a name for them selves or talk about things that need to get off their chests like in his 2014 chat with former WWE superstar CM Punk that has left a lasting impression on podcasts in general with millions that have listened to it since.

Colt is a trailblazer in not just the podcast world but the comedy world as well. He has taken wrestling and been able to make it comedic. His matches are hilarious to watch. No matter who you are you can like a Colt Cabana match because you never know what he is going to do next. This translates into stand up comedy very well. I saw him perform with Mick Foley not that long ago and I loved it every second of it! He went from watching Jim Ross calling a wrestling match to calling a porno by the end of a joke! Guess that is why they call him “Classic Boom Boom Cabanna”.

Colt simply has done all you can in wrestling and has transcended it to places outside of the squared circle making Chicago proud to have Colt Cabana represent it. He is my complete inspiration as a wrestler and wrestlers around the world. Stay classy Colt, but most importantly stay classic forever.
