Dana Nessel, Democratic candidate for Michigan Attorney General, is running the mother of all anti-sexual harassment ads

Nessel promises Michiganders that she won’t sexually harass anyone and that she won’t tolerate sexual harassers

Ladies and gentlemen, we may have already seen the best campaign ad of the 2018 elections in the United States, and it’s still 2017. This is an actual campaign ad, in the form of a nearly two-minute long YouTube video, from Dana Nessel, who is running in a contested Democratic primary for Attorney General of Michigan:

As far as I know, the ad is not being aired in the form of a television commercial in Michigan.

My favorite part of the web video is where Nessel criticizes political pundits for saying that Michigan Democrats shouldn’t have an all-female statewide ticket in 2018 (Gretchen Whitmer is the frontrunner for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in Michigan, and Jocelyn Benson is running for the Democratic nomination Michigan Secretary of State). It’s worth noting that many of the men in the corporate media who helped shape 2016’s political coverage nationally, such as Charlie Rose, Mark Halperin, and Matt Lauer, were caught committing acts of sexual misconduct against women and have been fired by their respective employers. While America’s democracy depends on the existence of a free and adversarial press, a culture of sexual misconduct should not be allowed to exist in any workplace, whether it be a news bureau, a prosecutor’s office, or any other office.

As a man from Illinois, I have something to say to those in the political pundit class who think that electing more Democratic women to public office shouldn’t be a priority: What have Republicans and male politicians in both major parties done to eliminate the culture of sexual harassment? The answer to that question is nothing, and many male politicians in both major parties, including President Donald Trump (R), Alabama U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore (R), U.S. Senator Al Franken (D), and U.S. Representative John Conyers (D), have been accused of acts of sexual misconduct against women.

Dana Nessel is making very valid points about how people in positions of power should conduct themselves. Also, if 100% of America’s elected officials were female, there wouldn’t be a drastic ideological shift in America’s political landscape, but there would be far fewer political sex scandals in this country.

I proudly endorse Dana Nessel for the Democratic nomination for Attorney General of Michigan, and I encourage Democratic primary voters in Michigan to vote for Nessel in next year’s primary.
