The Progressive Teen Editor-in-Chief

After a month of rigorous applications, and interviews, we have finally selected our members for The Progressive Teen’s new Editorial Board. Our Editorial Board reflects a diverse pool of thinking, creativity and ingenuity. Each Editor has demonstrated the passion and dedication it takes to make The Progressive Teen an even more esteemed publication. I’m excited to introduce you to our Editorial Board for this year!

Priya Sarma, Editor-In-Chief

Priya lives in Portland, Oregon and is currently a senior at Sunset High School, and is running the Oregon High School Democrats chapter. Outside of HSDA, she also serves as ASB Diversity Director of her school and is a young leader for the World Affairs Council of Oregon. She has received numerous writing awards and has been published in several platforms. Priya would like to double major in economics and international relations in college and has been interested in politics since she was young. Her hobbies include playing tennis, piano, eating, sleeping, traveling the world, and writing. You may contact Priya at psarma@hsdems.org.

Lauren Hagy, Analysis Editor

Lauren is an International Baccalaureate senior from Gulf Breeze, Florida. She is the founder and Chair of the HSDA chapter at her school, a County Ambassador for Gwen Graham’s gubernatorial campaign, and a published guest writer for the Pensacola News Journal. Outside of HSDA, Lauren is a senior soloist and choreographer on her dance studio’s competitive company and the Executive Director of the Florida chapter of the non-profit organization SHINE for Girls. This is Lauren’s second year with The Progressive Teen and she is honored to serve as Analysis Editor.

Saira Salyani, Op-Ed Editor

Saira Salyani is a Junior at Great Valley High School in Malvern, Pennsylvania. She is the Vice Chair of the High School Democrats of Pennsylvania, and President of her school’s chapter. A dedicated journalist, she writes for her school newspaper, and this will be her second year as an editor for The Progressive Teen. She recently interned at Governor Ed Rendell’s initiative to advance civic education, and has worked as an Organizing Fellow for the PA Democratic Party during the last election. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, and playing the piano.

Christopher Maximos, Current Events Editor

Christopher Maximos is a junior at the Delbarton School in New Jersey and the Progressive Teen’s Current Events Editor. As the chapter president of his school’s HSDA Chapter, a member of the State Advisory Council, and a volunteer/intern on the Clinton, Murphy, and Sherrill campaigns, Christopher is incredibly passionate about all things progressive! Beyond politics, Christopher considers himself an expert communicator. As a state champion and national finalist competitive speaker, he hosts a podcast, runs a policy initiative for public speaking education, and writes curriculum for speech programs across the United States.
