Is Rick Perry serious?

With the 2012 Presidential Election cycle less than fifteen months away, several G.O.P candidates have crossed the nation, stumping on their ideals and beliefs. Today, I’m going to discuss one of them — Governor Rick Perry, of Texas. That sounds awfully familiar, correct?

Perry, since the launching of his campaign has been boasting about his wonderful record in Texas. Let’s review his “accomplishments” right now:

Job Creation: While Texas has created the most jobs in America recently, the state is naturally blessed with three things: geography, demography, and geology — according to Pia Orennius, a Dallas Fed Senior Economist. Also, he is excellent in “job poaching” or ‘stealing’ jobs from other states in the U.S.. How would that work IF he were President of the United States? When Washington State was preparing for a vote on their income tax increase on citizens making over 200,000 dollars yearly, Governor Perry sent a letter to dozens of businesses, telling them “if Washington doesn’t want your business, Texas does!” In addition, a large portion of those so-called jobs are mainly minimum wage jobs — jobs that most Americans and Texans can’t support a family with.

Education: Once arriving in college, one-third of all Texans require remedial study in: math, writing, and reading — according to Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Texas also ranks last in residents (over the age of 25) with a high school diploma. And, yet, Perry is in favor of making cuts to education.

Texas ranks last in voter participation. There’s no wonder why they’re a Republican state! In 2010, only 38% of Texans went to the polls, with only 27% VAP.

As any Presidential candidate in 2012 will do, he’ll sell his record. However, that “record” is very flawed and should be exploited.
