As teen organizers in the political world we’re often told we’re “too young to be involved in all of this,” and yet teen interest in politics is on the rise across the globe as more and more young people seek to be active, informed citizens. When Greta Thunberg speaks before the world’s most powerful leaders at the United Nations Conference and Emma Gonzalez leads rally upon rally in the fight for gun reform, our generation proves time and time again the importance of youth activism.

From its establishment in 2011 to its official adoption by the High School Democrats of America in 2013, the Progressive Teen has always had one goal: to be the go-to news & media outlet for politically active teens across the United States and beyond. As we live through a global pandemic and heightened social uproar, one thing is guaranteed — history is being made.

With every new year, the identity and focus of the Progressive Teen fluctuates. As of right now our collective focus is fixated on three words: the Presidential Election. Young voter turnout is expected to be higher than ever historically recorded and the importance of issues related to equality, climate, and more continue to increase everyday. In the face of “MAGA culture’s” imminent rise, the Progressive Teen is here to uplift forward-thinking young voices. Through increased media, videos, articles, podcasts, and endless opportunities to get involved, this publication will ensure that the young voices speaking up in the junctions of today’s social, political, and environmental issues are amplified. We are the next generation, and we will not allow ourselves to fade into the background. We will be heard.

You deserve a voice. Here at the Progressive Teen, there is a place for everyone — you can get involved with just the click of a button! Whether you have an idea or just want to write in, we want to hear you. The world needs you to help end the silence that often blocks young activists from speaking up. Even if it is just one article or one video, I implore you to become a TPT contributor. There’s no limit to the difference we can make together. Let’s do this thing!
