TWO MAJOR-PARTY CANDIDATES are running to become the next president of the United States. One of those candidates has spent her lifetime tirelessly fighting for and serving our nation’s citizens, while the other has been in the race to serve himself.

It might be easy to stay at home and hope that chance alone lets the right person win, but this election is too consequential for one not to actively ensure that Donald Trump never makes it to the Oval Office.

“Baby Boomers” have perhaps left the next generation with the heaviest caseload of problems in American history, and this election comes at an important time in history. We need an intellectual, efficient, and morally upright leader to move our country forward. If Donald Trump’s past and lack of experience count as any sort of evidence, a Trump presidency is terrifying.

Hillary Clinton is leading the Democratic Party and the most progressive platform ever adopted. She has years of experience and expertise that no other candidate can match. She is breaking the highest glass ceiling in our nation, one that no woman has ever reached since the founding of this country.

This election will determine and shape how our country moves forward — or backward — on divisive national issues, and how our country will work with the global community to address world crises. It is absolutely imperative that we act to ensure the right President will lead and represent us. It is absolutely critical for us to get civically involved. This is an election we cannot afford to leave to fate.

For those retort with an “I can’t even vote” attitude, you can still do something. In fact, you can do the following list of things.

1. Make sure your parents are voting

If need be, force them to register online or stick a voter registration form right under their noses.

2. Register voters

You can start with just registering the eligible seniors at your high school or you could go all out and host a voter registration drive at a public location. (If you need resources and advice, HSDA has got you covered. Take a look at the HSDA Voter Registration Packet.)

3. Volunteer with the Clinton campaign.

Support Hillary by going to her website and signing up for local phone-banking and canvassing sessions. Drag all of your progressive friends along. If you live in or can travel to a swing state, calling and knocking for Hillary will make a huge difference this election.

4. Call out your Trump-supporting representatives

Call and write to them with a laundry list of reasons as to why the Donald should never (ever) be President.

Get out and vote. And if you can’t, get out the vote.
