The Promotion: Week One Preview

The Promotion is a weekly blog covering the storylines of professional wrestling. It is written by two writers who have a recent but passionate interest in the world of professional wrestling and its ongoing storylines. We realize that there are blogs out there with a greater understanding of the histories, traditions, names, and events of professional wrestling, and concerning the infinite nuances and minutia of the history of professional wrestling, we defer to them and learn from them.

Our angle is simple: who and what is being promoted. Are the characters being handled and developed properly? Are the storylines as compelling as they are believable? If this is serialized television entertainment, at what is it succeeding, and where could it improve?

We are not wrestling experts. We will be learning about the rich history of wrestling as we go. We hope that this gives the writing an appealing shine — for those who’ve never watched wrestling to gain an interest, and for seasoned veterans to remember the luster of their first love through fresh eyes.

No, we are not wrestling experts. What we are is writers, and we know what makes a good story. Welcome to The Promotion.

Our weekly update will follow Monday Night Raw, Smackdown Live, and NXT. The weekly updates will include the following sections:

  1. Push/Pull — which wrestlers are companies pushing? Which should they ease off of? Who should be the next to receive the push?
  2. Buy/Sell — what went totally right in a show. What was believable? What could the audience have done without? With more of?
  3. Bold predictions — what can we expect/hope for in future shows and pay-per-views?
  4. Why you should be watching — what was the most compelling moment of the night, not for wrestling fans, but to the casual observer, even skeptic?

In closing, we invite new fans and veterans to join us, teach us, and learn with us as a community of fans, always looking forward to the next promotion.
