‘You step into a room for the first time and immediately feel at home’ prompt

You step into a room for the first time and immediately feel at home. What is in the room, how is decorated? And in the corner is a clothes rack with a new garment for you. What is it?

I step down the port side at the stern. The boat is large — large enough to have a cabin with a kitchenette, a head, and a bedroom tucked under the bow.

The bedroom is perfection. Just large enough to hold a queen-sized bed, with two miniature night tables outfitted with drink holders and book racks, and a tiny closet behind a pocket door.

There’s a place for everything, with drawers under the platform bed, sconce lights above the night tables, and mirror covering the top half of one of the teak walls.

Small windows let in watery sunlight that washes over the kitschy nautical decor.

The navy indoor/outdoor carpet is rough beneath my bare feet, and the room smells of suntan oil and towels wet from the sea.

Behind the door, a simple black bikini and white terry cloth coverup hang on a hook.

I sit on the bed, resting my head on a cloud-soft pillow whose case reads, “life’s a beach.”

It feels right to have the water beneath me in a vessel that can shelter me or take me away in equal measure — the water lapping the bow a reminder the world is wide, but I am safe.
