5 Reasons Why I Love Gary Lineker
He’s (one of) the GOAT!
I have to warn you I’m partial. I have been following Gary since I was 9, and he played for Leicester City in the second division. Like many English people, I really fell in love with him during Mexico’86 World Cup, where he won the golden boot as the tournament’s top scorer (6 goals, including one hat trick against Poland!).
The recent controversy around his tweets and the BBC response made me love him even more.
Here are my top 5 reasons.
#1 — He literally shat himself during a world cup game
England was playing against Ireland at World Cup Italia 90, and Gary Lineker didn’t feel well.
I’m not a top football player, and I’ve never been in a world cup, but I would understand why someone would rather stay in their hotel room when they feel like shitting themselves.
Well, Gary’s different.
He was on the field, not feeling too well, to the point of shitting himself, and he kept playing afterward. Legend says he used his stinky ass to scare the defense away during the rest of the game.
You have to admire his dedication.
