The other day I was scrolling down my Twitter feed and I came across a video where a guy is hanging down and in an awkward position with a smile and confusion on his face.
What was going on here? What happened to this guy? Why was he hanging on the side of the pedestrian bridge somewhere on a subway in New York?
Is this normal behaviour of a human being? Do we accept that that’s how we are? Lost, confused and living without hope?
What drugs did he take to end up in this situation? Meth, crack or alcohol screwed his mind beyond recognition.
It’s comical and sad at the same time. It’s comical because it is easy to laugh at someone else’s unfortunate situation and sad because that’s how we are — powerless, stupid and ignorant of our own dumbness.
Is this guy represents the degradation of Western culture? Did we reach the end of so-called progress? Why do we accept this and think that it’s how supposed to be? Did we progress to the point of total degradation?
Of course, many of us will say that they are not like that. They will say that they have values and self-respect. Do we really?
Not long ago, we lived through the time when we were ready to report our neighbours having people around their houses. We were ready to report our elderly if they had their grandchildren visiting them. There were snitches between us who were calling the police if they noticed that their neighbours went out more than once a day.
Not long ago, most of us gave up on freedom for the sole reason that we were told to do so. We believed the lies and empty promises. We gave our common sense and critical thinking to the known liars and charlatans. We still do.
No wonder then that we have people hanging off bridges. No wonder we accept that it’s a normal behaviour of a human being. Or we ignore it and pretend that it does not concern us. We are good at pretending and lying to ourselves.
What’s next? The mass murder of those who openly say that our world needs healing and killing fields full of those who dared to point out the absurdity of it all? And don’t pretend that it can’t happen, it almost happen and only thanks to those who didn’t get scared and kept openly questioning the absurdity of the situation we managed to avoid the blood spilling en masse.
I hope the guy hanging off the bridge will see this video, get embarrassed, and learn something good from the unfortunate situation he found himself in. I hope he will cure his madness and become the human he is meant to be. Mentally and emotionally strong, kind and happy.
