Dear Members of the “Our Old House Renovation” Facebook Group,

It brings me no joy to announce that I am turning off the comments to the post of my latest home renovation update. It seems some people join this group with the sole intention of spreading negativity. Unfortunately, they have forced my hand, and I have to do what is best for me and my family.

Don’t have a Medium account? No worries, you can find the free read link here.

All I wanted to achieve when I posted these renovation pictures was to share my hard work, connect with other old homeowners and be a part of this community. Little did I know I would be accused of harboring “the real Jar Jar Binks” in my basement.

“Star Wars” is not something I was even aware of until the nasty comments began flooding my post. Yes, the creature I have in my basement seems to bear a passing resemblance to this “Jar Jar” character, but that has nothing to do with me or the time-period-appropriate wallpaper I installed in my beloved Victorian cottage. I’m tired of all the hate this issue has been generating. I have done nothing wrong.

So, perhaps against my better judgment, I will use this final edit to address some of the unwarranted criticisms of my post before I leave this…
