Laziness is a privillege

When we choose to be lazy, we choose to miss out on work and the benefits we earn from it. We do this because we know that our life does not depend on that work and that we are fine the way we are.

Usually, at the moment of laziness, we think something like “I’ll do it tomorrow”, or “To hell with it, I’m fine the way I am”, or we just tell ourselves that we don’t want what the work brings us.

If you have ever found yourself being lazy, I have to tell you something — You are privileged.

You have the privilege of not studying, not starting that business, or calling in sick without an actual reason. When you don’t do these things your life is not a stake.

Just imagine a girl. She’s the eldest of five siblings, and her parents work long hours just to put food on the table. She knows that if she doesn’t work hard at school, she won’t be able to get a good job in the future. She doesn’t have the privilege of being lazy because her family depends on her success. If she doesn’t study hard and make something of herself, she might not be able to support her family or even herself when she grows up. So, she doesn’t have the luxury of saying “I’ll do it tomorrow” because she knows that every day counts towards her future and the well-being of her family.

When you have the privilege of being lazy, overusing it and not making any difference in the world is no good for you or your society.
