My first ever poem

Darkness — it hides yet always burns.

There’s a darkness in me
That wants to be free.

It hides down below
Where it thinks I won’t know.

But I need to see it plain
Because it holds all my pain.

And it’s neither rational
Nor is it sane.

It wants to lash out
And burn it all down.

It sneers at any kindness
Chiding it as weakness.

It longs to dominate
And with great violence intoxicate.

But I am better than my anger
And I do not have to give in to my darkness.

It can shout and rage
While it bashes against its cage.

It will always be a part of me
Though nothing says I have to set it free.

I stand firm, and must always hold the key
Because there is a darkness in me.
