Three Questions for Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney
On April 28th, 2025 Canadians elected a Liberal minority government under the leadership of Prime Minister Mark Carney.
The success of a masonic lodge or body cannot be separated from the success of the community in which it is located.
In the same way, the condition of freemasonry is affected by decisions made at all levels of government, including federal.
More broadly, the condition of a civic culture (of which freemasonry is a part) is affected by the decisions made at all levels of government, including federal
The value of a strong civic culture is explored through many works, most notably Robert D. Putnam’s 2000 work “Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community” and its 2023 follow-up documentary “Join or Die.”
Square & Compass Promotions have discussed in past content (both on medium and via our social media channels) the economic, social, health, and democratic benefits to a strong and vibrant civic culture (and the ways in which Freemasonry is a part of that culture and contributes to those benefits).
With the above in mind, we at Square & Compass Promotions have three questions which we are addressing to Prime Minister Mark Carney:
- 1-Will your government take steps (and what will those steps be) to encourage civic engagement amongst Canadians?
- 2-You already announced plans to encourage travel within Canada, specifically for families with kids and young families (“Canada Strong Pass”), will your government consider plans or initiatives to encourage travel within Canada for all Canadians (such as a federal “Staycation Tax Credit?”)
- 3-Civic groups often rely upon heritage buildings and heritage architecture to act as both meeting places as well as community centres. What steps will your government take to encourage the preservation of heritage buildings and heritage architecture across Canada?
All opinions expressed are those of Square & Compass Promotions and the guest(s), and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the Windsor Masonic Temple and/or any Masonic group.
