Will the ‘Woke’ generation take over the world?
Lately there has been a lot written in the British media informing us that the silent majority of the population is being controlled by a vocal minority.
This vocal minority, we are told, is the ‘woke’ generation.
I am not an expert in generations. Apparently some are generation G, others, generation Z, and I have no idea what letter applies to my generation, probably B minus, I would imagine.
However, I believe the woke generation is made up of students, young people in general, a few left wing university professors and the odd politician jumping on a passing bandwagon.
The message in the media is they will one day be running the country and we will all be forced to only read, speak and watch what they deem suitable.
My skills in predicting the future are limited. As today in the UK is Wednesday 15th of February, I can reasonably predict that tomorrow will be February the 16th, (fingers crossed), but that is as far as I can go.
However, I can look back into the past.
1968
In this year there was turmoil. The younger generation of the time was also up in arms. They were continually marching against nearly everything, while chanting the name of Chairman Mao, that benevolent leader of communist China, and waving his little red book. The marchers were mainly university students, hippies and flower power refugees left over from 1967, the summer of love.
One of their most outstanding protests was outside the American embassy, then situated in Londons Grosvenor Square.
They were protesting against the war in Vietnam, although the UK was not involved in that conflict. But if you are going to revolt, you need something to revolt against.
So feelings were running high, and there was revolution in the air.
1979
So where were all the would-be Che Guevara's when Margaret Thatcher came to power?
Many of them were driving their BMWs and VW Golfs into London to make a fortune in The City or in advertising. Others were driving around the countryside in Volvos and selling over- priced antiques.
2034
So, in 10years time will the woke generation be working in the equivalent of advertising and banking, working in green enterprises or solar farms and making money like the revolutionaries of 68 did?
Or will they be working as special advisors to Politicians with their eye to moving into parliament and government in 2044?
If that happens then 1984 would have arrived 60 years late.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
