Public pioneered real-time fractional trading for equities. Now, we’re doing it for fixed income.

We’re thrilled to introduce fractional bond investing to all Public members. Now, you can buy and sell corporate and Treasury bonds for as little as $100. No more sky-high minimums. Buy in any dollar increment you want. And get way more liquidity. It’s fixed income for this century — and it’s only available on Public.

Bond investing has been around for centuries. But the experience has felt clunky, complicated, and dated. Until now.

Bonds can be a compelling investment, especially with today’s high yields. Corporate debt ratios are improving, leading to higher credit ratings for corporate bonds. And with the potential for rate cuts later in the year, those looking to lock in higher yields are being drawn to the bond market now.

But most retail investors haven’t invested in bonds (yet). That’s because the experience can be inaccessible and complicated. We’ve fixed that.

When we asked investors why they hadn’t yet invested in bonds, we realized there were quite a few inefficiencies and pain points in the experience:

  • Many investing platforms do not offer self-directed bond investing, and of those that do, very few offer the ability to buy bonds from a mobile phone
  • Some fixed-income securities have minimum order quantities of tens of thousands of dollars.
  • Bond markets also can be less liquid than other securities, like stocks.
  • It’s also challenging to find data on bond pages, so you’re left to make an investment decision without seeing company financials, news, or performance.
  • It can be hard to narrow down the universe of tens of thousands of bonds to determine which ones are best for your portfolio.

Bond investing clearly hasn’t innovated at the pace of other asset classes!

We took what you thought you knew about fixed income. And we fixed it.

When designing our bond experience on Public, we had a few non-negotiables. It had to be mobile-friendly, intuitively designed, and focused on discoverability to help new bond investors navigate fixed income for the first time. We also wanted to put context first. And just like we pioneered real-time fractional investing of equities, we imagined a world where you could invest in bonds for almost any dollar amount, just like you do with stocks.

Buy fractional bonds for as little as $100

Other brokerages have minimums of $1,000 for bonds, with some bond minimums as high as $50k. We’ve always believed in making the public markets work for all people, and we’re proud to be the only place where you can invest in a variety of corporate and Treasury bonds for as little as $100.

Choose any whole dollar amount

We were the first to offer real-time trading of fractional stocks and ETFs. Now, we’re doing the same for bonds. Public is the only place where you can purchase bonds for any dollar amount you like, just like you do with equities.

Sell fractional bonds more quickly and easily

All bonds on Public receive a liquidity score from 1–5, based on the historic liquidity of the bond. A score of 5 means the bond has had very active markets. All fractional bonds on Public have a liquidity score of 5, making them among the most liquid bonds on our platform.

Enjoy a modernized, mobile-optimized experience

Just because bonds have been around for ages, doesn’t mean your bond trading platform has to feel stuck in the 20th century. We’re one of the only brokerages that offers bond investing on your phone. And we’ve built new tools, like AI-powered bond search and an easy-to-use screener. And of course, you can also invest on the web, too.

Find the right bonds, faster

Now, you can narrow thousands of bonds to the ones that fit your personal investing criteria with our smart filters, or customize your search from scratch. You can also start a conversation with Alpha within the screener.

Make informed decisions with enriched bond detail pages

Unlike other platforms, you’ll find key financial data on each corporate bond page, from cash flow to debt metrics, so you can evaluate business health in the same place you invest.

Level up your bond-investing knowledge

Whether you’re looking to brush up on the fundamentals or dive into bond strategies like laddering, our resource center is your go-to guide for all things fixed income. Plus, you can keep up with the Leading Indicator podcast for the latest macro news impacting the bond markets.

There are currently 100+ fractional bonds on Public, and we’ll continue to add more. You can filter by fractional bonds in our screener tool or look for the Fractional tag on bond pages. We think these changes are the biggest things to happen to bonds since, well, ever. But you be the judge. If you’re considering bonds for your portfolio, check out our experience, and as always, we’d love to hear your feedback.
