Giving student-athletes the opportunity to build financial literacy and long-term wealth with their NIL earnings

The NIL era is upon us. For the first time, student-athletes are able to earn money from their own name, image, and likeness. As many as 460,000 student-athletes will be eligible to earn material income from their NIL (name, image, and likeness), and in tandem with that sweeping change we’re excited to launch One Team, Public’s program for NCAA student-athletes to build financial literacy and invest their NIL earnings for the long term.

Most people don’t learn about investing until after they graduate college. The recent NCAA changes are an exciting opportunity for these young athletes to start investing and develop foundational entrepreneurship skills earlier. With Public’s inclusive community of 1M+ members, emphasis on long-term active investing, and mission to make the public markets work for all people, we are thrilled to expand our community to include and to help educate this new wave of student-athlete entrepreneurs about investing as they build their own brands and businesses.

Student-athletes in One Team will receive $100 in stock on Public to begin their investing journey and will enjoy exclusive access to financial literacy tools and training, including fireside chats and workshops led by pro athletes, entrepreneurs, and financial creators such as Paul Rabil (co-founder & CMO of the Premier Lacrosse League); Haley Sacks (Creator of Mrs. Dow Jones and CEO of Finance is Cool); Sheldon Day (pro football player, Cleveland Browns); and more. In addition, they can apply for scholarship seats in Section4 courses, such as Brand Strategy and Innovation, and discover other perks. Through participation in One Team, student-athletes will also have the opportunity to earn revenue as Public partners.

To inform One Team programming and content, Public has enlisted a group of pro athletes, entrepreneurs and financial experts to serve as advisors, including:

  • Sheldon Day, pro football player, Cleveland Browns
  • Paul Rabil, co-founder & CMO of the Premier Lacrosse League and investor
  • Lexie Brown, pro basketball player, Chicago Sky
  • Chloe Pavlech, collegiate basketball coach and media personality
  • Amobi Okugo, pro soccer player, USL, Austin Bold FC, and founder of A Frugal Athlete

  • Ashley Hatch, pro soccer player, NWSL, Washington Spirit
