Conservatives: Sore Losers Rediscovering Their Moral Compass

Humans are a funny species. They are resilient, adaptable, and world-class problem solvers. However, they also have short memories, large egos, and fall prey to cognitive dissonance far too easily.

Within 48 hours of Donald Trump effectively losing the presidential election to Joe Biden, conservatives across the country were calling for unity and demanding that liberals and progressives win with dignity and class. To not be sore winners and rub it in their faces.

It is a strange phenomenon to see conservatives suddenly rediscover their moral compass. This won’t be the only time this happens, mind you. Just wait until they start talking about how much vacation time Biden takes. Or about the evilness of drone strikes. Or they begin to verbalize their concerns about fiscal responsibility.

There will be dozens of items, anchored in morality, that we will begin to hear conservatives chirp about for the first time in four years. Trump took vacations and golfed far more than Obama. Trump's drone program was far less accountable and far more deadly than Obama’s. And the national deficit and the national debt has ballooned far more under Trump than Obama.

Will they suddenly remember that these issues exist when Biden takes office? Or do they really not care about this stuff at all and were simply too busy enjoying the pedestal of winning?

What is most telling is that millions of Americans who spent four years calling other Americans ‘libtards,’ expressing how much fun it was to see liberals cry, how their tears were delicious, and how they were all snowflakes, are the same Americans now telling liberals they should be civil and be the bigger person. That they should focus immediately on rhetoric that is unifying.

Yeah, they will, eventually. But right now, less than a week removed from an election where the wanna-be dictator Donald Trump lost, Democrats are going to spend a little time releasing that pent up angst and frustration about the way his supporters have treated them for the last four years.

Don’t worry; they won’t make it last as long as conservatives did. Once the inauguration is past and the country settles into a more normal political landscape, the divide can begin to heal. Liberals will act in a way that is unifying. They will invite friends lost to Trumpism back to the dinner table and back to their social circles.

But for right now, conservatives demanding ‘we heal and move on’ within days of suffering four years of their verbal and psychological torment on every social media platform and in-person ending, well that is just some self-righteous bullshit. They celebrated for far too long to have any ground to stand on and tell liberals they cannot celebrate at all.

Conservatives are gonna just have to take it for a minute. Like liberals did. They will have to deal with half the country being sore winners for just a little bit. If Republicans really want to pretend to rediscover their moral compass, they should quietly take the piss they will get from liberals for a few weeks. Be gracious losers because the heat is coming for them regardless.

Already conservatives are claiming that the liberal insults came first, ten years ago, calling them racist and xenophobic, etc. This false equivalency of blame is weak and lacking teeth. Liberals called conservatives racist and xenophobic because they spent eight years questioning the birthplace of the country’s first Black President and acting in a blatantly racist and xenophobic manner.

Conservatives called liberals ‘snowflakes’ and crybabies and ‘libtards’ for expressing their emotions about how the 2016 election turned out. These are not the same thing, and any attempt to make them equals is a sad logical farce.

Conservatives were called deplorable and racist by people who were standing up for a good man's character that was under attack. Liberals were called ‘libtards’ and ‘snowflakes’ for rightly pointing out the narcissistic, egomaniacal attributes of a con man and a zealot.

So no, liberals will not allow conservatives to seize the moral high ground because they are taking five minutes to rub it in their faces that they lost. Republicans do not get to lecture Democrats on what it means to be a good person or taking the high road when they sloshed around in the mud with Donald Trump for four years and liked it.

Conservatives want unity? Understand how they treated the other half of America the last four years, like complete garbage, and know they have every right to feel a need to express themselves now that the nightmare of Trump is ending. And once their need for expression is over, then conservatives can ask to begin to reconcile and unify as a country.

But not right now. Not the morning after the battle was won. There will be dancing in the street. There will be jubilation and showmanship. All while rubbing it in conservatives’ faces. Everything they did to liberals for four years. Remember the pleasure of that day, when Trump won against all odds, and know that liberals feel how Trump supporters felt four years ago.

Now conservatives can be the bigger person, take the ridicule for a few minutes, and see this for what it is: a masterclass in empathy. Take the loss with grace. Don’t rob your opponent of their moment to celebrate. Soon, once liberals are done dancing, we the people can start rebuilding. But not yet.
