February 28, 2017: Sage Advice & The Art of Letting Go

Angela Bassett (who also played Tina Turner) as Bernadette in Waiting To Exhale sensibly getting rid of the trash.
Sometimes you’ve got to let everything go — purge yourself. If you are unhappy with anything… whatever is bringing you down, get rid of it. Because you’ll find that when you’re free, your true creativity, your true self comes out. — Tina Turner

My friend Marcus once shared that he often smudges his apartment with sage after entertaining guest or hosting parties, with so many different energies inhabiting his space, it’s a way for him to reset and clear the air so that he can have the right energy moving forward. Occasionally he’ll also send guests home with sage bundles so they can do the same. This weekend I put a sage stick he’d given me to use. While doing so, it got me thinking about how often we continue to tolerate people, situations, or even ideas that no longer are relevant to our lives, and in some instances downright toxic. For an artist (or anyone for that matter) it’s almost impossible to bring something fresh and exciting into the world when you have stale, stagnant, feelings holding you back.

This week’s Pulp Playlist is all about to helping you get out with the old and in with the new. If you have to part ways with a person, situation, belief system, or anything else to be the best expression of yourself DO IT — no drama or story is needed other than it simply doesn’t make sense for your life anymore, you’ll be amazed at how freeing it is. We put together tracks that made us feel empowered to move forward with strength, most certainly love, and a just pinch of petty (being petty about something is a good sign that you need to let that something go). Open a window, light some sage (or whatever else you choose), bump this playlist and say peace to the foul and filthy, and welcome some fresh new energy.
