VIBES 005: The Gospel of House Music
Vibes 005 is a different sound than we’re used to hearing in the Vibes series. Gone are the brooding, futuristic, hip hop and trap beats that the series has previously been known for, and in their place you’ll find House music alive and well. The mix gives you the feeling that we’ve come out of a long winter hibernation and now we’re ready to welcome the regeneration that comes with Spring. We sat down with our favorite Dj, Dj Famous to talk about Vibes 005 and the inspiration behind it.
Q: Vibes 005 is a totally different feel and sound than your previous installments, what was the inspiration for the new sound?
A: I’m always looking to try new things. I’ve always wanted to do a mix of just house music. I was afraid, and honestly sat on this mix for a while. I did some research on how to mix house music and I read something really inspiring: “fall in love with the music and learn to respect it”. Everybody knows I have a deep love for Hip Hop, but there has always been something about House music.
Q: There’s a very uplifting feel with this vibes, was it intentional or the creative process just doing its thing.
A: It wasn’t intentional. I’ll be completely honest, House music has a natural happy, uplifting feeling. No matter what song you can’t help but feel the escape.
Q: We’ve previously talked a bit about the relationship between house and gospel music, what do you think thats about?
A: The easiest way to paint that picture is to look at the way people move when the choir is singing the word of the Lord; people cry, dance, and smile. They remember that there is somebody out there who loves unconditionally. That person lives within the music for that moment.
That same thing happens when people hear House music. Except The Lord isn’t moving you, a Dj is helping you groove at a 128 bpm. It’s a feeling. And I hate to say it because it’s cheesy but…
It’s a vibe.
Q: This sound is very different from what we’re used to hearing from you, will we be hearing House music creeping into your live sets?
A: Oh most definitely. House music has proven time and time again that it’s not going anywhere, and I’d love to get my feet wet and do some house sets here and there.
Q: What’s next for Dj Famous?
A: Man… I can’t say just yet. But this summer you’ll catch me all throughout the city. I’m really looking forward to see what’s next up.

A: Champagne! You can never go wrong with that.
