Percolating takes time

When I was at my 9–5, I hating the feeling of boredom. I would fill my days with anything I could to simply pass the time: the crossword, long lunches, prepping blog posts, scouring the Internet, socialising with colleagues, IMing with friends, and sneaking out 15–40 minutes early.

To ease myself from the dread of going to and from work, I consumed all free time with podcats. I was on a schedule of about 15 podcasts, 90% of them were entrepreneurially focused. I figured if I was going to be an entrepreneur in the near future, I needed to learn everything I could before that day arrived. I got so many ideas. I was highly motivated and put tons of things on my to-do list.

Now that I’m a full-time entrepreneur, I look at those lists. And, I feel paralized.

Where do I start?

What is most important?

What will move the needle in my business?

Because I feel paralysed, I do the only thing that comes naturally: read blogs. It seems like the right thing to do when you feel like you should be on your computer, but you don’t know what to do first. It’s either read blogs or scroll through Facebook, again.

I choose blogs.

I’d rather be inspired by people who are actually doing something rather than complainers or football-spectators or forced to look at one more baby/wedding/house remodel/Christmas tree.

These blogs tell me the same things the podcasts told me: grow your email list, find your tribe, create a signature program, know your audience, cultivate your authority, be consistent, put yourself out there, find a coach, market yourself, do affiliate marketing, achieve your goals, be on social, etc.

It’s all great advice, but it’s A LOT.

A lot-a lot.

I’m still recovering from quitting my 9–5 and adapting to my new environement in Thailand, and my to-do list has huge pieces on it like, “cultivate your authority,” and “create a signature program.”

Um…where do I begin.

I began slowly. I got out my planner and started chunking things up so that I could work on the larger tasks in more digestable forms.

Then, today, I had a breakthrough.

While I was brainstroming for something else, I thought, “Wouldn’t this be great for my signature course?…….Wait…..maybe this could be my signature course!!!”

And, just like that, *snap* my ideas started flowing. I took pages and pages of notes of things I could actually do that really moves my business forward.

This only happened because I allowed myself to percolate. I haven’t been flooding my brain with other people’s ideas. I gave myself the space to have my own ideas.

AND IT WORKED!

I have ideas!

I can create something!

I can do it!!!

Did you just feel the Earth shift a little bit, because I just did!

I’m going to create more and more, because that’s what I do.

I create things.

I’m an entrepreneur.
