President Turpin extends condolences in wake of tragic accident near Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre

The University of Alberta is saddened by news of a tragic bus accident that occurred near Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre last night. On behalf of our community, I would like to extend our thoughts and condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the University of Victoria students who were victims in the crash.

Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre is a research and teaching facility shared between the universities of Alberta, Victoria, British Columbia, Calgary, and Simon Fraser, located on the west coast of Vancouver Island in the traditional territory of the Huu-ay-aht First Nations. University of Alberta students or staff who are currently located at Bamfield were not involved. The university is offering counselling and other support to our students and others in our community who may be affected.
