III. The Application of Knowledge

The world is full of books with immense spiritual wisdom. Why hasn’t man just applied this wisdom to his life? In other words, what prevents a person from applying a piece of spiritual knowledge? We must understand this point before we attempt to effectuate wisdom within our own being.

There is no long winded answer here. It’s short and simple. You cannot apply spiritual knowledge. Truly, you can do nothing with it. Feel it in your own hearts. Can you apply it? Imbibe it, then assimilate it and finally make it a living truth? No, this cannot be done. Don’t waste your time attempting it.

As we discussed last time, there is you — a being in ignorance — and there is the other — a being with infinite knowledge — that is truly you or lives behind you.

The ordinary process of applying knowledge is basically the effort of your will and concentration upon the idea that you hold. So far so good. The problem is that this ordinary you cannot deal with spiritual knowledge. It runs away from it. Why does it do this? In the ultimate analysis, at the root of all spiritual wisdom, lies one command — Go and Kill Yourself! You see the problem here. For, all spiritual knowledge really tells you is that there is no you and that you are the shadow and cancer.

The result is obvious. We play with spiritual knowledge, dance around it and analyse the truth behind its veil. We do everything but commit to it. Some even try to commit to it in their over enthusiasm, only to shortly discover that their commitment though sincere and pure was not really a commitment in the highest sense of the word. You cannot commit to a spiritual truth. You cannot force it upon your own being.

At this point, it seems as though all hope has disappeared. We are left in the cold with a seemingly unsurmountable task ahead of us. For, what are we to do if we can do nothing?

But the disappearance of hope in reality only gives way to its higher self and we see within us the emergence of a resolute and humble aspiration. Aspiration emerges at the end of the tunnel of the human will. It is only then that we realise, that someone else is to be called upon to do this work. This is the wisdom behind the saying— home is where the heart lies, and this can only be discovered by the individual who travels half the world in search for it.

Now, we can truly appreciate the value of all spiritual wisdom. All spiritual wisdom is meant to take you to end of the tunnel of the human will. Every spiritual truth in the universe has as it’s aim to create an opening in the disciple through which the other can then operate.

Spiritual wisdom is not a collection of facts to leverage whilst the disciple is on the path. Spiritual wisdom is the rain that nourishes the seed of the other within us.

Truly, there is no difference between knowledge and the devotion of the human heart. They emerge from a common source and share the same aim. They accelerate the flow of this spiritual change within us. What was once a faint trickle of a stream can and does become a dynamic cascade of a divine movement.

You have a choice dear friend. You are this higher truth and You are this ignorance. You created both of them. All this is Your work.

O Will Remember. Remember, O Will, Remember.
