The Cultural Weekend or ‘Cult Weekend’ was organized by the Cultural Council from 30th March to 1st April for the first time with the aim of creating a platform for enthusiasts to present their love for art and culture. The weekend was a great success with all the events showcasing a stage for hidden art and talent to come into limelight. All clubs had something for the onlookers to entertain. Many workshops were held for enthusiastic learners to find their inner kick of art be it dance, music or theatre.

MASQUERADES-

The MASQUERADES club organized “KSHITIJ”, a platform to showcase theatre talent. The sub events included Stage Play, where students showcased their talent by performing short plays. Other teams from Varanasi were invited to participate in this non-competition event. Besides Stage Play, a “mime” competition was also organized, a type of act where participants delivered their messages only through expression, signatures and props. Shilpi Marwaha, an actress from the movie “Ranjhana”, came as a guest and performed an act “A WOMAN ALONE”.

INDIAN and WESTERN MUSIC CLUB-

The two clubs performed together during the Cultural Weekend. There were band performances where they performed songs like ‘Alvida’, ‘Jo bhi main’, ‘Sathiya’, ‘Lose yourself’ from IMC along with Qawalli and a Capella. The WMC performed songs like ‘Killing in the name’, ‘ Ghost of perdition’ and ‘Tornado of souls’. Two foreign artists were invited as guests and they entertained the crowd at the end of the event. The alumni of WMC also increased the thrill and performed as a band.

DFZ-

“JHANKAAR”, the event organized by the Dance Club of IIT (BHU) Varanasi was a great success. They set the stage on fire with their energetic performances in Gymkhana on the 1st of April. The event saw great participation from the freshers of the college who gave 4 group dance performances. A workshop was conducted by the famous dancer Mr. Durgesh Karlad as a part of the event which brought umpteen learning opportunities for the budding dancers.

FAC

The Fine Arts Club witnessed some amazing artwork during the spectacular Art Exhibition, attended in huge numbers by the freshers of the institute. A workshop on Brush Lettering by Ms. Pragya Gulatee and a workshop on Doodling by Mr. Peela Karthik were organized by the club for the enthusiastic learners. The competition events included Sketching, Scroll making, Poster making and Soap carving. An informal event of tattoo making was also held for the participants.

LITERARY CLUB-

The club organized the second edition of The Banaras Litfest during the Cultural Weekend. Flagged off by the Tukbandi event, the participants entertained the crowd with Nazms and Ghazals. The Banaras Litfest Parliamentary Debate tournament, was a one-of-its-kind event organized by the club. It drew participation from reputed institutions like RMLNLU, IIT Ropar, Delhi University — who locked horns to capture the winning trophy. A Poetry Slam was also conducted by the club which witnessed huge participation by students from Varanasi, Mumbai, Allahabad etc. The Poetry Slam saw IIT (BHU) grab the winning position.

QUIZ CLUB-

The Quiz club hosted six quizzes during the Cultural Weekend covering domains ranging from current affairs to pure trivia. The India and SpEnt (Sport and Enterainment) quiz was conducted by the eminent quiz master Mr. Somnath Chanda, while the other four quizzes , viz. General, Biz/Tech , Bollywood and HELM (History/ Etymology / Literature / Mythology) interested a large number of participants.
